Working with pages on your site
Pages might be content located in:
In Joomla 1.5:

- Content > Article manager
- Extensions > Module manager
- For the contact us information: Components > Contacts > Select your business (Note: this does not apply to all websites)
In Joomla 1.0:

- Content menu > All content items
- Content menu > Static Content manager
- Module menu > Site Modules, then look for the name of the appropriate module
- Contact us > Components > Contacts XTD > Click on your business name (More instructions...)
- If “com” is in the page URL when you are looking at the page, then the page is in a component and you can’t edit it directly
Please note, these instructions are only for when a page is a content item or a static content item.
- Log in to your website
- Find the page (More information...)
- Click on the page name
- Edit the page with the text editor. (More information about using the text editor)
- If you are making a lot of changes, press "Apply" to save the page and come back to it regularly
- When you are finished editing you can click on "Save" to save the page and go back to the previous menu
Tip: if the page is similar to an existing page, copy that page and then edit it to save time.
- Log in to your website
- Go to the Content Menu, and click on "Article Manager" (Joomla 1.5) or "All content items" (Joomla 1.0)
- Click on "New"
- Give the page a title (and make the Title Alias the same thing)
- Choose the section and category that you'd like the page stored in from the appropriate drop down menus (Click here for help to create a new section and / or a new category)
- Edit the page with the text editor. (More information about using the text editor)
- If you are making a lot of changes, press "Apply" to save the page and come back to it regularly
- When you are finished editing you can click on "Save" to save the page and go back to the previous menu
- Put the page into a menu (Click here for help on menus)
- Open another browser and go to the page, check that it looks good before finishing (Click here for help on editing the page)
Please note, these instructions are only for when a page is an article (Joomla 1.5) or a content item or static content item (Joomla 1.0).
- Log in to your website
- Find the page (More information...)
- Tick the box next to the page name
- Press the "Copy" button in the top right corner
- Choose the section and category that you want the page to be saved into
- Press "Save"
- The copied page is now in that section
- To identify which item is the copy and which is the original, check the ID number. The higher number is the copy. It is best to edit the copy in case any links or menus go to the existing page.

- Log in to your website
- Find the page (More information...)
- Tick the box next to the page name
- Press the "Move" button in the top right corner
- Choose the Section and Category that you''d like to move the page to
- Press "Save"

- Click on the page name
- To the right of the text editor are some tabs.
- Insert the metatags and press "Save" or "Apply"
- keep the Keywords to less than 25 and put a comma between each of them
- keep the Page Description to less than 150 characters and make it attractive to humans
Note: Metatags do not play as big a part in search engine rankings as they once did.
Your Contact Us page might be managed through a component called Contacts or Contacts XTD. (This might be indicated by the presence of "com_contactsXTD" in the URL of that address). To edit this page:
- Components > Contacts (or Contacts XTD) > Click on your business name
- Edit the details in the Contact Details column
- Check that each item is shown or hidden by clicking on "Parameters"at the right of the screen
- When you are finished, press "Save"
You might like pages to not be visible to the public, such as when you are first creating it, or for seasonal information (eg Christmas Specials).
Note: you can also un-publish a menu item so that it doesn’t show online. However, this will still leave the page online, just harder to reach. (More information...)
To un-publish a page that is either a content item or static content item:
- Log in to the site
- Find the page (More information...)
- Click on the icon under the Published column header
- If it shows with a red cross, the page is unpublished, a green tick means that it is published
- To publish the page, press on the icon again, and it will publish the page

- Log in to your website

- Tick the box next to the page name
- Press trash or delete
Note: this moves the page to the trash (To empty the trash)
- Log in to your website
- Go to the Section manager (Content > Section Manager)
- Click on the "New" button at the top of the screen
- Give the section a name and description
- Press "Save"
Please note if you wish to create a new category, the section that it is going to go to must exist first. (Create a section)

- Click on the "New" button at the top of the screen
- Give the section a name and description
- Press "Save"
