Media Manager

The Media Manager shows you what files are stored on your website, such as images and PDFs.

Through the Media Manager you can review, add, edit or delete these files.

To access the Media Manager, either click on the icon on the homepage (after logging-in), or go to the Media Manager in the Site menu.

The files and folders that you can edit are in the /stories folder.

To upload images and files from the Media Manager:

  1. Log in to your website
  2. Go to the media manager (Site > Media Manager)
  3. Click on the /stories folder (and if you want the file stored in a subfolder click on that or create a new one)
  4. Click on "Browse" or "Browse Files" (Bottom of the screen in Joomla 1.5; top of the screen in Joomla 1.0)
  5. Find the file and then press "open" (your operating system may say a different word to Open)
  6. Click on the Upload button
  7. You will now see the image or file loaded into the folder

To put the image into a page edit the page and then insert the image.

To delete images and files from the Media Manager:

  1. Log in to your website
  2. Go to the media manager (Site > Media Manager)
  3. Click on the /stories folder (and if the file is stored in a subfolder click on that)
  4. Joomla 1.5: Tick the box next to the red cross and press Delete in the top left hand corner
  5. Joomla 1.0: Click on trash can image underneath the thumbnail of the file that you want to delete
  1. Log in to your website
  2. Go to the media manager (Site > Media Manager)
    • Go to the appropriate folder by clicking through the folders in the left of the screen
    • Type the name of the folder in the box to the right next to the "Create Folder" button
    • Press "Create Folder"
  3. In Joomla 1.0:
    • Click on the /stories folder and subfolder that you want to create the new folder in
    • Type a name into the "Create Directory box" - and DO NOT USE ANY SPACES in the name
    • Click on the "Create" button
  4. You will now see the subfolder created

(The URL is the website address of the file)

This is useful if you want to create a link on a page directly to a PDF, for example to allow people to download a PDF.

  1. Log in to your website
  2. Go to the media manager (Site > Media Manager)
  3. In Joomla 1.5 [Help to determine which version of Joomla you are on]
    • Find the file by clicking through the folders on the left (it may be in the stories folder)
    • Underneath the Files heading is the file path on the web server to that folder. This field varies depending on where you are hosted. In the field you are looking for any of the following:
      • /httpdocs/
      • /public_html/
      • /www/
      • /htdocs/
    • The URL to the file is a combination of your website address, the folder path after /public_html/ and the file name, with one slash only between all three
    • Your website address is your domain name, for example http://www.butterflyinternet.com.au (the http:// is required)
    • By combining all three you get the URL of the file such as http://www.butterflyinternet.com.au/images/stories/food/bread.jpg
  4. In Joomla 1.0:
    1. Click on the /stories folder and subfolder as required to find the item
    2. Click on the thumbnail of the file that you want to get the URL of
    3. The URL of the file is displayed in the Image/URL code
    4. Copy this link
    5. You can paste it straight into onto a page of your site to link to it, and then type whatever you like as the link text where it says "Insert your text here"
