Fatcow Email Settings

If you have your emails set-up through Fat Cow, there are some special settings:

  • Incoming mail server: pop.fatcow.com
  • Outgoing mail server: smtp.fatcow.com
  • Username: your full email address, for example This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
  • Password: as supplied

In order to insert these settings, you will need to follow the appropriate steps for your email program. Open those instruction in a new window:

There are some advanced settings that you have to change.

PLEASE NOTE: The name of each setting is different in different email programs - especially Macs. However, it is vital that the following settings are changed.

In Outlook the wording is as follows:

  1. Click on "More Settings" or "Advanced"
  2. Under "Outgoing server" make sure that "My outgoing server requires authentication"and "use same settings as incoming mail server" are both ticked
  3. Under the "Advanced" tab, make sure that the port numbers are as follows:
  • Incoming mail server (POP3): 110
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): 587

Click "Ok", and then press the "Test Account Settings" tab (Note this feature is not available in some email programs such as on Macs). If everything is done correctly there will be green ticks. If there is a red cross there is a problem with the settings on those parts. Check that everything is letter for letter exactly as per this page and your email address includes the .com or .com.au as appropriate. If all of the settings are exact, delete the email account and create a new one from scratch. This normally fixes all any bugs.

Then press Next and save it.

In Microsoft Entourage (for Macs):

  1. On the screen where you enter the settings"Click here for advanced recieveing options" and ensure that the incoming port is 110
  2. On the same screen "Click here for advanced sending options" and change "Override default SMTP Port" to 587 and tick "SMTP Sever requires authentication" and "Use the same settings as the incoming mail server".

90% of the time when people call us for help it is because they have either made a typing error or left the domain name off the email address for the username.
