Project Overview

Eating Disorders Victoria (EDV) provides a comprehensive support and information service on all aspects of eating disorders. For Butterfly, contributing to the work that EDV do was a very rewarding experience, and we relished the opportunity to help this foundation stand out online.

Delivering so much important information required an architectural strategy to direct users to the most relevant resource. The menu structure is arranged around the three central uses of the site, information, support and resources, and is highly functional and easy to use. The quick links menu is designed to highlight some of the most frequently accessed topics and resources.

To keep the home page fresh and engaging we incorporated a photographic focal point targeting key services and messages. The tabbed news area provides a prominent space for the most updated content, which is directed at returning users.

Overall, design around the topic of support for family, carers and people in recovery required sensitivity and the end result reflects a sense of calmness and tranquillity throughout.

Technology & Design

The site is managed using a Joomla CMS, which allows easy administration of the huge and growing depth of information, publications and resources available on the site.

EDV also runs a Virtuemart shopping cart, fully customised forum and the REAL youth site; a blog-style mini site that targets youth and encourages interaction. The news and events sections were also designed specifically for EDV’s recurring monthly events and items published across multiple categories.

Logo and Branding

In re-branding EDV we had a number of objectives:

  1. To update and modernise the logo and colour palette
  2. Express and represent personal growth and positivity
  3. Sensitively interpret these objectives with regard to the client’s core service

A leaf motif combined with the bright and engaging cool-toned colours together achieve a supportive and encouraging message which embodies the work that EDV do within the community.

Together the new brand and website came out brilliantly and gave us a reason to be proud!
