Project Overview
As opposed to most projects, Diabetes Vic had a fully functional website when they arrived at our offices. The problem? Lack of flexibility and a clear path to upgrade and maintain was slowing them down considerably. So the decision had been made to move from the existing .NET NUKE system and management system, to the flexible and extensible Joomla platform.
Although a seemingly simple migration on the surface, the sheer magnitude and time-critical nature of the diabetes website made this project quite complex.
Technology & Design
Although the development side of the coin was the majority of this project, the design team still had to get their hands dirty by creating a slightly upgraded homepage interface. The purpose of the homepage revamp was, as it is in most cases, to introduce more content, without introducing more clutter. A homepage feature story rotator was also added.
In development terms, this was a complete site rebuild, with functionality being the only real element to be retained from the existing site.
The Joomla CMS was the platform of choice, with the major component being the Virtuemart Shopping Cart for the online purchases.
